What Does the 2023 Outlook for Insurance-linked Securities Look Like Today?

With the ramifications of the recent US banking turmoil still reverberating through the global financial system, investors are once again asking themselves fundamental questions about diversification. Whilst allocation between different asset classes has always been central to portfolio construction and management, a wider range of risk-based concerns are starting to play a larger role in allocation decisions. For example, how does a given asset class perform in a high inflationary context, or how exposed is a given mixed portfolio to interest rate risk, or even geopolitical risk?
Answering these questions has brought yet more attention to the role alternative assets can play in institutional portfolios. Less well-known at present than some other alternatives, insurance-linked securities (ILS) are today receiving increased investor interest due to the diversification they can bring.
In this podcast hosted by Reuters Events, Vesttoo’s Chief Commerical Officer, Julia Henderson sat down with Karim Dellal, former Head of ILS at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, for a deep-dive into the current outlook for ILS and the trends driving the market today.
